"This Thanksgiving my boyfriend's step mom's daughter-in-law, Kim, brought this sweet potato casserole for our feast. Not being a huge fan of sweet potatoes, I was reluctant to try it. Boy am I glad I did! It isn't as sweet as most sweet potato casseroles and doesn't have tons the marshmallow goop on it. I begged her for the recipe so that I could have it every holiday and decided to post it on *Zaar so that I don't lose it. She stated on the recipe card that she always doubles the recipe and that when it does, it fills a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish."

  1. I made this for Thanksgiving yesterday based on the high rating without doing a trial run first. It was a great choice! I made it almost exactly following the directions (I had 4 cups of mashed yams instead of 3 cups of sweet potatoes). It still came out perfectly and my step-father wouldn't let my mom leave without the recipe. I wouldn't change a thing. A couple people thought it was too sweet - I didn't find that at all, but I did use more potatoes than the recipe called for, so I suppose that could be the difference. I also had to cook it quite a bit longer than the recipe called for. I think the next time I make it I will cook it covered for about 1/2 the time and see if it cooks a bit faster that way. Thanks for the great recipe! 11/24/16 - Update: Dug this recipe out for Thanksgiving again this year. Made it with 1/2 white and 1/2 orange sweet potatoes (no yams this time) and it was perfect! Rave reviews only. Didn't hear anyone say it was too sweet. I also subbed rolled oats for the flour in the topping because my sister is eating gluten-free. I think that made this dish even better! 11/19/19: Now this is my most requested T-Day dish. I make it every year to rave reviews. Usually do marshmallows on 1/2 during the last few minutes of cooking for those who want the extra sweetness. :)

  2. I was never a big fan of sweet potatoes, but this recipe fixed that - it's phenomenal! I used all pecans instead of mixing the nuts and I used a little more butter in the topping than the recipe, but it was awesome. I made 2 batches, 1 for my Thanksgiving 2010 and one for a family friend who doesn't cook much to take to his - and both were huge hits! It's easy and tastes WONDERFUL! I posted a pic of the finished casserole.

  3. Excellent recipe! I cut the yams (4 -5 big potatoes) into cubes and boiled it first. Then I added all the ingredients. Instead of milk, I used condensed sweet milk and 1/4 cup of sugar, and pecans only for topping.

  4. Awesome. I was worried since there is no brown sugar in the mix if it would have a flavor I would like, but it did. Not very sweet, in a good way.My tip is for 3 cups is two huge potatoes. This came out to the perfect amount

  5. AMAZING sweet potato casserole! I made it with the marshmallows and everyone was so delightfully surprised to see the pecans beneath! It was truly tasty treat that you could only indulge in once a year!

  1. This was a HUGE hit at our table Thanksgiving. Those that HATE sweet potato's were dying to get the recipe. The only thing I changed was instead of cream or milk, I used Coconut Milk.. I also made this in 2 parts.. the first part I added everything but the milk and eggs and then the topping I mixed up and put in a tupperware bowl... closer to dinner I mixed in the eggs and coconut milk and sprinkled the topping on and popped it in the oven when the turkey was cooling :) This WAS SO GOOD that I would love to give it 10 STARS !!!

  2. DELICIOUS!!! Oh my this was good - very tasty and not what anyone was expecting when they had their first bite. I made 1 3/4 recipe - about 5 cups of sweet potatoes and adjusted accordingly. My only mess up was putting in too much salt but the recipe didn't suffer. I told all the SP haters to please try just one bite and all but one LOVED the dish. I don't like walnuts so used all pecans instead. The crumb topping was really nice and there was no need for marshmallows. Our friend's daughter told us how she "hates pecans passionately!!" but loved them on the sweet potatoes. There was lots of second helpings and kuddos on the recipe so this one is a keeper will be made again.

  3. AWESOME! Everyone loved it! I omitted the walnuts and used 1 cup of pecans instead. I will be making this again for sure!

  4. Try using rolled oats instead of flour in the topping. This recipe is terrific as-is, but I thought it was even better that way!
