Deliciously fluffy and tenderly crisp homemade buttermilk waffles that everyone will love! The most perfect and flavorful waffles to whip up at home for breakfast or any occasion. And super easy to make!
I think I’ve mentioned on here a few times that I’m not that big of a breakfast person. I often joke that you’ll either find me making some elaborate breakfast spread (if the mood strikes) or simply grabbing a granola bar in the morning…there is no in between, ha! Maybe that’s the gemini in me idk. And oops, I forgot to mention, a good + quick cast-iron fried egg situation is also one of my faves. All in all, that is it. So, I guess I’ve been doing the intermittent fasting thing in the morning since before it even was a thing haha.
However, when I’m feeling in the mood, I love to go all out and chef it up in the kitchen, y’all. I’m talking cinnamon rolls, sausage gravy and biscuits, french toast bakes, and homemade waffles to name a few. No tea, no shade to my beloved Eggos but homemade waffles gets me every single time! I mean…swoon 😍
Buttermilk Waffles Ingredients
- all-purpose flour
- cornmeal (either coarse or fine)
- baking powder
- baking soda
- sugar
- kosher salt
- eggs
- buttermilk
- vanilla extract
- melted butter
I love how crisp yet tender these buttermilk waffles come out. The cornmeal adds a little oomph of flavor and contrast. And if you use coarse cornmeal, you’ll get the little bits of texture thrown in there too! However, if you are not a fan of coarse cornmeal (or you don’t want any grit to your waffles) then use fine cornmeal. These waffles are also fluffy and have that ample buttery flavor too.

How To Make Homemade Buttermilk Waffles
The best part is they’re super easy…to make homemade buttermilk waffles:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt.
- In another large bowl, whisk eggs together. Then add in buttermilk and vanilla, and stir to combine.
- Pour dry ingredients into wet ingredients, and mix together.
- Lastly, pour in melted butter and stir just until combined.
- Preheat waffle iron according to your manufacturers instructions.
- Spray waffle iron with spray and cook waffle batter in waffle maker.

Description

Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal, coarse or fine
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups whole buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- pure maple syrup, for serving
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt and then set bow aside. In another large bowl, whisk eggs together. Then pour in buttermilk and and vanilla extract and whisk to combine.
- Gently add dry ingredients into wet ingredients and mix together until just combined. Pour in melted butter and again mix until just combined.
- Heat up your waffle maker according to the manufacturers instructions. Once waffle maker is hot, lightly spray with cooking spray and pour batter in leaving a 1-inch border as batter will spread out.
- Cook waffles until golden and crispy, about 3-5 minutes depending on your waffle maker. Place cooked waffles onto a plate and repeat process with any remaining batter.
- Enjoy warm with extra butter and syrup, if desired.
Notes
1. If you do not have any cornmeal, use a full 2 cups of all-purpose flour.

Haven’t made waffles often but these are by far the best I have ever made!!! Love the cornmeal crunch, and cooking them smelled just heavenly, don’t usually eat/like waffles but these are going to be a regular in my house.
