How does our own procedure work?

Most professional UK teeth whitening treatments involve using a bleaching gel that is painted onto your teeth by a teeth whitening dentist. Here at theLondon Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry, the best gel we use is calledNu Radiance. Not only does it provide long-lasting results within just 5-8 days, but it is also clinically tested and proven to bring no tooth sensitivity.

After your in-surgery teeth whitening appointment, you will then be provided with teeth whitening trays that are custom-made for your mouth impression.

If you opt for at-home treatment, we recommend using the remaining gel and trays for 30 minutes every day for up to 2 weeks. Don’t worry, we will show you how to complete the at-home procedure before you leave.

Visit our treatment page for more information onteeth whitening in London.

Can you get teeth whitening on the NHS?

As cosmetic procedures are not generally covered by the NHS, any teeth whitening treatment offered will be for patients who require whitening under medical circ*mstances and will be chargeable under Band 3 fees.

To see if you are eligible for NHS whitening treatments, you will need to speak to your dentist – visit theNHS sitefor more information on NHS eligibility and dental fees.

Are cheaper DIY home kits just as effective?

DIY home kits may be a cheaper alternative to professional teeth whitening, but most dentists agree that they are less effective.

But why is this?

Under EU regulations, all DIY home teeth whitening kits can only contain a maximum of 0.1% hydrogen peroxide – the active ingredient used in most teeth bleaching gels.

However, professional whitening kits from dentists can legally contain a maximum of 0.6% hydrogen peroxide, hence whyour treatmentshere at the LCCD are more effective, providing you with better and brighter results than if you use at-home DIY kits.

Is teeth whitening suitable for you?

Most of our patients are suitable for our teeth whitening treatments, but there are criteria you need to meet too, including:

  • Being 18 or older.
  • Having healthy teeth and gums.
  • Not currently being pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Being free from veneers, crowns, bridges, or dentures – as alternative treatments are much more effective.

Before you start your teeth whitening treatment here with us, you must have a consultation with one of our teeth whitening dentists to assess your dental needs and check your general and dental health will not be affected by treatment.

After this consultation, we will then decide whether you are suitable for our teeth whitening solutions and discuss your options with you.

Is there anything you can do to prolong your whitening treatment?

We’re well aware of what an investment teeth whitening can be, so we want to ensure you’re doing all you can to prolong the amazing results once you’ve left the surgery. If you do practice the correct aftercare, your teeth whitening can last up to a whopping 3 years.

In addition to good oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing twice a day, we also recommend avoiding the following to prevent any damaging stains:

  • Tea and coffee
  • Red wine and sugary soft drinks
  • Tomato-based sauces
  • Vinegars
  • Smoking
