For Bernard Brannigan, the answer to that question begins with the death of his Irish immigrant grandfather, who left behind a widow and a large family in Pittsburgh. Not long after, one of Julia North Side neighbors came to her door and asked if it would help her if he gave her boys some work. The work was Downtown at the Fulton, and it was the beginning of a life in the theater for three generations of Brannigans.

By 1920, four of boys were working as stagehands at the old Nixon Theater. Eventually, all toured with Broadway shows and worked on Broadway, then went back to Pittsburgh and settled said her grandson, theater consultant Robert Brannigan of Connecticut. Another grandson, brother Bernard, also got his start as a stagehand at the Nixon, then left to join the Marines, serving in Korea and playing clarinet in the Marine Corps Band. When he returned to America, he embarked on a career that took him to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where he worked as a draftsman on stage designs; to Philharmonic Hall, where he was assistant to the general manager; and to Carnegie Hall, where he was director of operations. Mr.

Brannigan, who also played an essential role in the early success of the Pittsburgh Public Theater, died Dec. 19 in Bridgewater, N.J., after complications from surgery to treat a brain aneurysm. BERNARD BRANNIGAN June 15, 1936 Dec. 19, 2008 By The Associated Press Lark Previn, a daughter of actress Mia Farrow whose sister Soon-Yi Previn was at the center of Miss messy breakup with Woody Allen, has died. She was 35.

Lark Previn died Christmas Day at a hospital in New York City. No cause of death was given. Ms. Previn was born in Vietnam in 1973. She was one of three children adopted by Miss Farrow and her then-husband, conductor Andre Previn, who was music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 1976-84.

The couple also had three biological children. Miss Farrow adopted two children and had a biological son during her relationship with Mr. Allen. She starred in several of Mr. movies during their relationship, which ended in 1992 when she discovered that Mr.

Allen was having an affair with her adopted daughter Soon-Yi, then 22. He belonged to The Fulbright Association, Sigma Kappa Phi, The Polish Cultural Council and the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy Faculty Association.Mitchell Borke was born as Mieczyslaw Borkowski in 1919 in Warszawa (Warsaw), POLAND. He graduated from General Joseph Sowinski 1-st Municipal Gymnasium (high school) with Honors in 1936, and went on to study medicine at the Medical Faculty, Joseph Pilsudski University in Warsaw, until the outbreak of World War II on September 1, 1939.He spent the war years in the Soviet Union in a forced labor camp and on a collective farm, surviving to immigrate to the United States after the war. In the US, Mitchell Borke studied pharmacy at the College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois in Chicago, Illinois, graduating in 1951 B.S.

in Pharmacy, with Honors and continuing with his studies to achieve a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.From 1957 until 1989, he was a member of the faculty of the School of Pharmacy, Duquesne University, in Pittsburgh, advancing in rank from an assistant professor to full professor and retiring as a Professor Emeritus. While at Duquesne University, he established the programs in Nuclear Science, Radiopharmacy and in Radiological Health as well as the Laboratory in Nuclear Science. Mitchell Borke held membership in numerous professional and honor societies and had 25 refereed journal publications and 6 book reviews (2 in Russian). For the academic ear, 1969-1970, he held a Fulbright fellowship to teach Pharmaceutical Chemistry in Taiwan.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.
